What is a Peer-Reviewed article?

Original Research published by experts in their field

Articles are reviewed by their peers (other experts) before publication

Long articles (usually 10-30 pages) with charts and data

Follow a distinct pattern and contain some or all of the following:

  • Abstract
  • Introduction
  • Methodology
  • Results/Data
  • Discussion/Conclusion 
  • References/Bibliography

Primary vs. Secondary Sources

Primary Sources - immediate, first hand accounts of a topic

  • Original Research
  • Interviews
  • Datasets, survey data, census, etc.

Secondary Sources - summarization of primary material

  • Books
  • Literature Reviews
  • Biographies
  • Summary articles
